Just a few thoughts, the Va. High game was great opportunity for us to knock off some rust and get back into the rhythm of playing some games. Although, we looked rough at times, we put together a decent game and were able to keep the turnovers down. That's one of the things that we were looking to do and we came out successful in that category.
The Volunteer game was as close to formula as we could get with the exception of the late game turnovers and a few fouls that weren't very smart. All together I thought that we broke the Volunteer press very well committing only 1 turnover against them during the game versus the press. The team played smart ball and we took a step forward against this team.
The Sullivan Central game was a jaw dropper, I have never witnessed a team shoot like the Cougars and there was basically no way to stop what they were doing. The officials made it clear early on that they were going to call touch fouls and that did not bode well for us when we needed to go man against the hot shooting of SC. With nearly everyone of the starters with 2 fouls or more we had no choice but play with less intensity. Sullivan shot the lights out and they will hopefully be the best shooting team that we play all year.
I hope that the kid that got injured early in the SC game recovers well from his arm injury, you always hate to see anyone get seriously hurt during a game. Overall the tournament helped us out tremendously, we will benefit from playing on the big court at Va. High, by playing the young and athletic Va. High team and we will gain advantages from playing two pretty good triple A schools.

December Tournament Month
This December is shaping up to be a good test for this years squad. We play 2 tournaments and a tip-off , one of which is already over and two which are quickly approaching. The Coalfield Clash went well and we had two tough games from Roanoke Catholic and Hurley.
The Roanoke game was a good test for us and an opportunity to play a very athletic team, although we didn't win we did play well for our first game of the season. Losing only by 2 to Catholic gave us a boost of confidence and we expected to do well against Hurley. However, the next night it took us a half to get going and Hurley showed signs of the future of the BDD. A really young squad, with some pretty smart freshmen should pay some big dividends for Coach Cooper and his program down the line.
Despite the slow start against Hurley, trailing 28 to 27 at half, we came out and played well in the second half. I was pleased with our second half performance, but could do without another first half like that one.
The Virginia High tournament is coming up December 18,19 and 20 and we will face the winner of Virginia High and JJ Kelly in the second round game. The Arbys Tournament will be from Dec. 26 until the 30th and we drew a tough first round opponent in Sumter High School out of SC, they are currently ranked number 1 in SC among the 4 A schools. Should be another good tough test for us and a great opportunity for some of our kids to be seen by some college coaches, most importantly it should give us a taste of playoff basketball at it's best.
Until next time,
