We just recently passed the middle of the season and the team continues to improve. We are currently 5 and 8 overall and 1-2 in the district. Looking back on some of the losses, we are just a few points or plays away from having 8 to 10 wins. So that in itself gives reason for optimism. We just have to learn to put people away when we get the opportunity.
The BDD is shaping up once again to be very interesting. The pre-season favorite, Hurley, has been pushed to the limit by us, Council and Haysi. This Friday night they will be playing the pre-season number two in Honaker, should make for a great game. Honaker has lots of team speed and Hurley has a very talented trio, with some pretty good role players.
This Friday night we travel to Haysi and we are hoping for a good showing. The Council loss in OT this past Tuesday night was a tough loss for the team, but anytime you play on the road in the BDD you have to consider yourself fortunate to have a shot at winning one. The boys seem to have put it behind them because we bounced back with a really good practice on Wednesday. With the way things are going this year in the district, everyone needs to hold serve at home and hope to steal one or two on the road. We will be playing Richlands, on the road, this Saturday in a Quad (all four teams will play).
On the website there is an opinion poll that asks the question, "Should the BDD host a year end J.V. tournament?" Feel free to participate and let us know what you think. Presently, the BDD only allows the top two j.v. teams in both girls and boys divisions to play a Championship game. I support the addition of a j.v. tournament. I would suggest hosting a j.v. tournament, the week before the varsity tournament. This would avoid scheduling conflicts and allow varsity coaches to bring up any j.v. player that they might need for the varsity tournament. The tournament could be held with the school that is to host the following years tournament, that way they could get a little bit of practice before hosting the varsity tournament the following year. I also think it would be in the best interest of the school, if the BDD agreed to let them retain the gate and concession from this event. This could possibly be used as a nest egg to assist with concession or hospitality expenses the following year.
If you have any thoughts on this, please feel free to email them to me and I will pass it along if necessary.
Thanks and God bless,
